If you’ve followed My Baking Addiction for an extended period of time, you may remember that Brian and I redecorated our master bedroom last year. You may also recall that I often complain about the fact that I don’t get much sleep. I like to blame it on stress, anxiety, work, Brian, or too much iced tea – regardless of where the blame falls – this girl simply doesn’t get enough sleep – ever.

After our recent trip to St. Lucia and pretty much the best sleep of our lives, Brian and I decided on the plane ride home that without a doubt, we needed to purchase a king bed. Brian is a tall guy – and his 6’5″ frame simply is not made for a queen bed. Why it took us 6 years and a trip to the Caribbean to figure this out is beyond me. We were obsessed with a new bed and being that we’re both partial to instant gratification, we rushed into the purchase and had a new bed within about a week after returning home.

At first we were thrilled with the new bed – it was huge and I was all about the fact that I could sleep without half my body hanging off the mattress and it was a bonus that Brian’s arm wasn’t accidentally jacking me in the nose at 2am. True story. This has happened countless times. However, after about 2 weeks, the mattress was not so amazing and we found ourselves less comfortable than we were in the queen bed, so we returned the mattress – twice. I felt like Goldilocks and the Three Beds. Seriously – the mattresses were either too hard or too soft – none were just right. However, we thought the people at the mattress store were starting to question our sanity, so we decided to keep the final mattress and complained about it daily for months.

A couple of months ago, I was contacted by the lovely folks at Sleep Number. They asked if I would be willing to review a Sleep Number mattress and share my tips for turning a bedroom into a Sleep Haven. Of course, we were immediately intrigued, so we headed to the mall the following day to do a little investigating before we agreed to work with Sleep Number.

From the moment we plopped ourselves down on the Sleep Number i10 bed, we were smitten. You see Brian and I have very differing opinions on mattress comfort. I prefer my bed to be on the soft, squishy side and Brian prefers his to be much firmer. The Sleep Number’s dual-layer design allows both of us to personalize our comfort. It’s this technology that makes Sleep Number technology absolutely perfect for couples like Brian and I. In fact, our Sleep Numbers are quite different – I fluctuate between a 35 and 40 while Brian’s magic number is 65.

creating a bedroom haven

As though i10 Sleep Number bed wasn’t enough, Sleep Number wanted to further our comfort by sending us a set of their In Balance sheets and two incredibly amazing pillows. I can honestly say that I’ve never slept better in my life. Brian and I agree that we fall asleep much faster and don’t awaken nearly as often during the night. Both of these factors definitely allow us to wake up more refreshed and ready to start our day. This is kind of a big deal, because I am so not a morning a person!

Since I’m sleeping like a baby, I think my incredibly awesome readers should have the opportunity create their own Sleep Haven. Together with Sleep Number, My Baking Addiction will be giving our readers the opportunity to win a Queen i10 Sleep Number Bed {Retail Value: $4,699.98). Yep, you read that correctly – we’re giving away a Sleep Number Bed to one lucky winner later this week. UPDATE: Giveaway will post on Monday afternoon (11/5/12). A bedroom haven. What I’ve always wished for.

A Sleep Number bed sounds like it would really help anyone get a good nights sleep. Especially when sharing the bed with someone with different opinions on how firm the mattress should be!
My tip for a sleep haven is a minimal view. Less is more in my opinion. Less clutter makes it easier to keep it clean, and clean is relaxing.

I made a spray of vanilla and lavender and I’ve been spraying it on everything! Thanks for the great tip!

I have been sleeping on my couch for a year now. Yes a year! I stopped sleeping in the bed because every morning my back hurt more and more and this was a NEW mattress! I sure wish I had a sleep number bed!

My best tip for a great bedroom is clutterfree and soft high thread count bed sheets and fresh flowers.

I have major issues sleeping. Our mattress has an indention right smack down the middle so the husband and I tend to fall to the center and I hate touching him when I sleep (strange, right). Touching him while sleeping makes me hot and cause me to wake up – again.

Our bed squeaks so loud it wakes up the baby! Sleep Numbers sound awesome! Perhaps someday we will be able to afford one.

I ALSO have the same problem! I feel like when your husband is that much bigger than you, I’m sleeping in a canoe, and the bed sinks in the middle. Then I’m scrambling for the edge of the mattress every night so I won’t roll to the middle. UGH. Can’t WAIT to enter!

We are sleeping on a mattress we bought in 1990. It held up well the first twenty years, but the last two have not been good. We are thinking about getting a new one, but boy are mattresses pricey these days!
