As we move towards some really cold weather here in Ohio, I can’t help but think about all the hearty stick-to-your-ribs meals I’ve been craving (Since July, but I never said I was normal). Colder weather and heartwarming meals just seem to go together, and it can be hard to resist over indulging during this time of year. After all, our bodies are pre-programmed to want to put on weight to keep us healthy through the elements – or at least, that’s what Brian keeps telling me.

Of course, I’m doing my best to wage a war against the Bulge by adding in some super satisfying meals that won’t have me joining a club that requires a weekly weigh-in (in front of other people, what?!) come January. Top tip number one? Meals that are high in protein and fiber, but still overwhelmingly delicious. I’ve been planning lots of meals using legumes of every kind: pintos, black beans, black eyed peas, chickpeas, and favas will all be making an appearance at our table this autumn and winter.

Preparation of some of my favorite bean loving recipes, like hearty chili, Uncle Jake’s baked beans, and Katie’s Smoky Black Bean Soup will all be a snap this fall due to one great new tool in my kitchen: the Le Creuset Stoneware Bean Pot.

I’m not sure I’d have been going quite so crazy over legumes if I hadn’t been sent this beautiful pot for review. But after one cooking session, I am in love. I’ve told you before what a sucker I am for heritage pieces, and Le Creuset never disappoint in this arena. Since they’ve been in business nearly 90 years, they’ve got quite a lot to choose from when it comes to their archives, and all of it is quality.

The Stoneware Bean Pot is no exception. The beautiful enamel color is vibrant and won’t fade, no matter how many times I use it and wash it. It cooks, as we say, “low and slow” in the oven for perfectly flavorful beans, soups and stews. The lid fits tightly on it, so the slow heat and condensation mean perfectly basted dishes.

I’m pretty sure that when you think of baked beans, this is the pot our great grandparents were using to create those recipes. Pretty cool, huh?

Le Creuset are generously offering this beautiful Flame Stoneware Bean Pot to one lucky MBA Reader!
