Italian Cream Cake

by Jamie on July 18, 2009

Wow, one year…one whole year I have been writing this blog! As I sit here typing I am swaying in my chair and singing the lyrics to the 1990′s jam It’s Our Anniversary by Tony! Toni! Toné! However, I am replacing the word anniversary with blogoversary, because I am cool like that…it’s a damn good thing no one can see or hear me because I way waaay off key and the song in this context makes absolutely no sense!

For my blogoversary, I made The Pioneer Woman’s Italian Cream Cake and let me tell this cake is fabulous! If you follow me on twitter, you may remember my tweet about having a spoonful of this frosting for breakfast yesterday morning. I did omit the walnuts instead topping the cake with toasted coconut! Click here for the recipe & go make it because its fab!

For my blogoversary I wanted to put together a giveaway that would be comprised of some of my favorite things…

Here are a few of them…
Pictured: Pinch bowls & Ice Cream Cone/Snow Cone Holders from Target

Giant Piping Tips and Cupcake Liners from
Bake It Pretty I love this little company
Pictured: Microplane and Silicone Spatula from Bed Bath and Beyond

Pictured: Mini Bundt Pans and Brownie Bite Pan by Wilton and purchased at Michael’s.

Not pictured a an OXO Cherry Pitter from BB&B and a couple of small additions such as sprinkles and spoons…

How do you win?
Leave a comment on this post telling me your goals for the next year…it can be something simple like…perfecting a chocolate chip cookie or something much more deep!
My goal is to learn as much as I can in the world of photography and upgrade my camera!
The Rules GIVEAWAY ENDED
1.) Open to U.S.A. residents only.
2.) One winner will be chosen on 7/23/09 by using random.org.
3.) Make sure that I have a way to contact you when you leave a comment; either through your blog or an email.
4.) One comment per person, please. Plus one *tweet entry; totaling 2 entries per person.
5.) I will contact the winner via email or commenting on the winner’s site.
6.) You have until 7/26/09 to claim the giveaway, or I will have to choose another winner.

I have been wanting to bake that cake since Ree first posted about it… And your picture of it is so… Tasty looking :O)

My goal for the next year is to learn how to sew with a sewing machine. It has been a desire of mine for a long time now (since I was a little girl), but I've stupidly never really made up my mind just to do it. And that just has to change this year. Not only would it save me a ton of money, I would feel like even MORE of a domestic goddess. I love LOVE LoVe to bake, but man oh man would I love to sew, too.

Congratulations on one whole year!!! You've come a long way! I hope my new little blog amounts to even half of what yours has :O)

Wow what a wonderful giveaway.
My goal for the year is to get decluttered, more organized and also to at least once a month try something I've never done before.
This month I (YES ME) made homemade dill pickles for the first time ever. They were great.
They were also soooo easy, I don't know why I kept putting it off.

Congratulations Ms. Jamie on your blogoversary! :) This cake? I want to make it. Now. I have nothing to make it FOR (except perhaps my own birthday? How sad is that?) but I want to!!!
Since it's my birthday this week I've been thinking a LOT about the next year (it's the last year of my 20s). I have decided that I have two major goals: to get a new job (this one is making me really sick; bad environment coupled with too many hours… and not enough money to boot) and to buy a house (hubby and I are in month number 2 of looking… finally seeing things that are worth considering but they're still overpriced for us). I hope to start my thirties settled in our own house and with a job that I like!!!

He was diagnosed in June and we are on the 2nd drug with little luck thus far. 2) Get back into TWD witha vengeance, I have fallen off the wagon in the past few months (see above) and seriously want to get back into it. 3) Keep doing what we are doing, raising 3 happy healthy boys.

Ahhh! I just made this exact cake two days ago and it was a disaster. My layers were completely sunk in the middle. The crunchy sugar on top was weird too – but the main thing is my layers did not turn out at all. It looked nothing like yours. I checked other recipes and none of the recipes called for baking powder. This recipe has all three main levening agents (baking powder, buttermilk, and baking soda). I had convinced myself that was the problem until I saw your beautiful cake. I feel like screaming. Ü
The icing is to die for though…I keep eating spoonfuls – YUM.

I want to cook healthier meals in the coming year.

HOLY COW! Now that's a lot of comments. You go girl.

Your Italian cream cake looks great! I've been wanting to try it.

Goal #1 learn how to balance (better) working fulltime, being a mom (& all that entails!) and doing things I like (baking & blogging).

Goal #2 schedule one on one time with each of my children AND my honey!

Wish me luck! Not with the contest but with my goals. Time management outside of work has never been my strong suit!

Happy blogoversary, Jamie! Here's too another great year for you & My Baking Addiction!

My goals, wow, there are a lot of them are you sure you really want to know? I think more than big, broad goals more of my life mantra is to achieve a lot, be productive, learn a lot -but to live simply and enjoy the little things and stay happy! For the next year that just means improving myself, keeping the house cleaner, learning more about cooking and baking, being a better mom to my kids. Is that good?

happy birthday, baking addiction!

that cake looks glorious, it's definitely been favorited :)

my goal for this year is to master food photography. i feel vulnerable when i made something fantastic but can't show how tempting it really looks because my pictures turned out bad.

i was lucky enough to have one of my pictures featured on foodgawker.com, but every attempt since then has been denied.

i would like to get really great at photographing my creations so that i can submit to fg on a fairly regular basis, because that's sort of my standard for knowing my stuff looks good.

happy birthday, mba! i hope i make it that long!

I love your blog! Everything looks so yummy. My goal for next year is to take cake decorating classes. This winter, I started selling cookies of a secret family recipe of iced sugar cookies called ice cream cookies. I never would have expected a year ago that I would be selling 5 dozen to sometimes 20 dozen cookies handmade and hand decorated each week. I hope by taking the decorating classes, I can decorate not only my cookies better but branch out to cakes.

Thanks for such a wonderful blog!!
