I know the holidays are pretty much over, but giveaways are never out of season on MBA.  Over the last several months, I have been becoming increasingly obsessed with all things crafty.  I’m a big fan of making vinyl labels, invitations, cards, and gift tags with my Silhouette CAMEO™.  Before I owned this ingenious machine, I would find myself spending hours getting my craft on – only to end up frustrated with the finished product.

Ya see, I’m a bit of a perfectionist and cutting straight lines with scissors is definitely not one one of skills that I excel at. So, I spent some cash and a lot of time at craft stores picking up paper cutting tools and cute paper punches, but I still wasn’t all that satisfied. It wasn’t until I received the Silhouette CAMEO™ that I was truly thrilled with the DIY projects I created. I’m telling ya – this is one amazingly awesome cutting tool.

I have to admit that when I first received the Silhouette CAMEO™, I was fascinated and perplexed all at the same time.  It all seemed way too convenient and user-friendly.  The idea that a cutting tool could be attached directly to the computer where thousands of DIY crafts are available at your fingertips seemed almost too good to be true – especially after all the time I had spent attempting to do these things by myself.

When I began searching through the extensive selection of online designs, I stumbled across self-adhesive vinyl and thought that it would be a perfect option for labeling some spice jars.  I have never been shy about my love for Pumpkin Pie Spice, so I used the Silhouette to design the lettering for the jar.  It was so incredibly easy and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the final product.  Once I mastered that project I couldn’t wait to attempt more.

With the Silhouette CAMEO™, I was able to design adorable tags for the Slow Cooker Apple Butter and gift tags  for the homemade Hot Cocoa Mix. I even made adorable mitten and snowflake cut outs for the label too.  Recently, I posted Reindeer Chow that featured a festive reindeer silhouette on the gift tags.  I’ve also used the Silhouette CAMEO™ for countless projects in my classroom. From art projects, cards and bulletin boards – I’ve saved time and money – which is always a bonus! There really seems to be no limit to what this machine can do.

The Silhouette CAMEO™ is incredibly versatile. It can create intricate projects of all sizes from small (1/4″ wide) to large (12″ wide) and has an unlimited cutting length. It can cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric, and other materials. It operates with or without a cutting mat. When the blade is replaced by a pen, the CAMEO will sketch instead of cut – how cool is that? It can be controlled from a computer or an SD card. With the print and cut feature, the CAMEO also has the ability to cut out designs that have been printed on your home printer – pretty awesome if you ask me!

The Silhouette CAMEO™ gives you artistic freedom to come up with your own ideas and design as you go, or if you’re looking for some detailed options that you don’t need to put a lot of thought into, there are printable classes available and easy-to-follow instructions on a ton of DIY ideas.

The Silhouette CAMEO™ comes with the following items:

  • Silhouette Cameo Electronic Cutting Tool
  • Silhouette Studio® software for Windows XP/Vista/7 and Mac® OS X 10.5.8 and higher
