We had our first big snow fall here in Ohio yesterday and even though it really wasn’t that much, I’m acting like it’s a full blown blizzard. I prepped with blankets, movies, and cranked up the heat. I’ve been known to (slightly) overreact to the first snow of the season. We will all get used to this weather soon, but in the meantime, I needed a way to cope. No matter what age, one of the most comforting ways to fight the cold is with a mug of sweet and creamy hot chocolate.

I have three delicious Adult Hot Chocolate recipes to warm you up after you shovel the driveway, go sledding, or build a snow fort. Let’s face it, playing in the snow has no age limit. Even if you live somewhere that doesn’t have cold weather, one of these festive treats are a great way to get yourself in the mood for celebrating the season. And we all know that a sweet, boozy cocktail helps you wrap presents…it’s a fact!

Let’s start at the beginning with Jamie’s fantastic recipe for Hot Cocoa Mix.

Here in Miami, I recently had the pleasure of eating at a “Spanish” (from Spain) restaurant.
I’ve never traveled there and I wasn’t very hungry so I ordered their ‘Hot Chocolate with Churros’. Churros are a fried dough, these were round. What amazed me was the thickness of the hot chocolate! It was like a ‘pot de creme aux chocolat’. Thick and not very sweet, it was absolutely decadent, warming, and extremely satisfying. For Christmas I had baked some ‘Mississippi Mud Brownies’ and I had some leftover Duncan Hines frosting and spoonable Marshmallow. It had gotten a little nippy (you know, 60 degrees). I diluted some on the frosting with some Half & Half, microwaved it it 1 minute increments and stirring each time. After 3 minutes it was topped with a dollop of marshmallow cream. I came pretty close to replicating what the restaurant served me. When I looked up the recipe for hot chocolate in Google español, it seems they thicken it with some type of flour or corn starch, that’s why the consistency was so thick. I had noticed that in the store section of the restaurant they did offer two different brands of hot chocolate mix — but, honestly, being gluten intolerant, my version works better for me. You can control how chocolatey you want your cup of hot chocolate to be, but let’s face it, if your going to indulge, indulge like you mean it.
