Whisk together the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, mix the wet ingredients, then add the wet to the dry and combine.

Bake the cake

Pour batter in a 13x9-inch pan and bake for 45-50 minutes.

While the cake bakes, make a syrup of sugar, buttermilk, butter and vanilla. Soak the freshly baked cake while it's warm.

Soak the cake

After soaking the cake, refrigerate it until completely cool. Mix together a cream cheese frosting and top the cooled cake.
