These sour cream cookies are a soft, pillowy, old-fashioned recipe that is right at home on any holiday cookie platter!

With a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, at least 3 minutes.

1

Add eggs, followed by sour cream and vanilla, and mix until well combined.

2

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft, sticky dough forms.

4

Divide the dough in half; wrap each half in plastic wrap and chill for 4 hours or freeze for 1 hour.

5

Roll chilled dough out to 1/4-inch thickness on a well-floured surface. Cut out simple shapes and place on a lined baking sheet.

6

Bake for 10-12 minutes. Cool on pan for 5 minutes, then move to a rack to cool completely.

7

Use a mixer to beat together the frosting ingredients until smooth. Spread onto cooled cookies.

8

If desired, top with festive sprinkles. Enjoy!
