Valentine’s Day Desserts Roundup

by Jamie on February 12, 2012

The twin post to yesterday’s Valentine’s Day craft extravaganza, today we’re rounding up Valentine’s Day sweets for your sweet. I have to say that bloggers are some of the most creative people on the planet! So many inspirational ideas – I think I’ve got you covered if you’re drawing a blank on how to celebrate your loved ones this St. Valentine’s Day.

These amazingly gorgeous Chocolate Raspberry Vanilla Bean Marshmallows from Katie at GoodLife{eats} are stunning! Homemade marshmallows are deceptively simple to make, and when you add raspberry and chocolate – you’re just screaming romance! Imagine the look on your guy or gal’s face when you present homemade heart-shaped, chocolate dipped pink marshmallows. I’m pretty sure you’d be a Valentine’s Day hero.

While I don’t live and die by chocolate, I know a whole lot of that do. Make sure you check out these Ghirardelli Stuffed Brownies from Amber at Bluebonnets & Brownies. Holy cow, she took fudgey, chocolately deliciousness to a new level, you guys.

It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without a few puns, right? I mean, Conversation Hearts wouldn’t be as epic as they are without the puns. So when I spotted these “Owl” Always Love You Cookies from Callye at The Sweet Adventures of SugarBelle, I couldn’t resist adding them to this roundup. Callye regularly stuns me with her gorgeous icing work – her cookies are always a work of art. But those little owls are just too darn cute!

Speaking of too darn cute, how could you go wrong with Valentine Popcorn. Amy combined some of my favorite things here: sprinkles, vanilla multi-colored candy melts, and crunchy popcorn. I could seriously eat this by the bucketful without any regrets whatsoever. Packaged in plastic bags with themed ribbon, they would be an excellent homemade treat for teachers, friends, or your kids.

If you’re feeling daring, adventurous, and well, channeling Amanda’s genius, then I’d love to hear about your successes making this Hidden Heart Cake from i am baker. I’ve known Amanda for a while, and her creativity continues to astound me on pretty much a daily basis. I can’t wait to check out Amanda’s book when it’s published, but until then, I’ll be dreaming of her hidden design cakes – especially ones so passionate as this.

For those a little more faint at heart, looking for a quick treat that looks like it took you a lot more time than it did, these Valentines Twinkies on a Stick from Kristan at Confessions of a Cookbook Queen are just the ticket. Kristan makes them look like something you’d order in a bouquet from a company with Flowers in the name, but readily admits that they are way less work than they appear. She’s my kinda chick, that Kristan.

These Sweet Heart Cupcakes from Glorious Treats first caught my eye on Pinterest. This recipe uses a basic chocolate cake recipe and is filled with a delicious Maraschino Cherry frosting. A heart shape cookie cutter was used on the top of the cake to add love-shaped flair. They’re unique looking because the frosting sets into the cupcake rather than towering over the top, and the chocolate-cherry combo is a classic Valentine’s Day flavor combination.

I may not be overly sentimental, but I’m definitely a sucker for things like these Marshmallow Love Bugs From The Decorated Cookie. Who doesn’t love pink sanding sugar? They’re simple enough that little ones can put them together, but they’d also make a great addition to any Valentine’s Day centerpiece.

I hope that if you celebrate Valentine’s Day, you have a wonderful time. If not, I hope you simply appreciate the ingenuity each of these creations represents. The talents of each of these bloggers is beyond measure, and I’m glad I got a second to highlight that. Thanks for stopping by!
