I may have my own baking blog, but that doesn’t stop me from being addicted to plenty of others too. I hit print a ridiculous number of times when I spend an hour or two visiting my favorite food blogs around the web.I’m also a magazine hoarder and have piles of culinary magazines.

I often wonder, does everyone’s office look like mine? Stacks and stacks of cookbooks, printed recipes, culinary magazines, and web addresses written on post-it notes. I fully admit it: Not only do I have baking addiction, but a recipe reading addiction too.

Brian started (and so did I, if I’m honest) to get a little cranky at all the paper taking over our lives. Right around the same time I was given a box of my Nana’s recipes, I started to think that what I really needed was a way to “back up” all this paper – maybe to the point of being able to get rid of the majority of it all together, but also to keep my Nana’s precious handwritten recipes safe in duplicate form.

Fate intervened, and The Neat Company, maker of the NeatDesk digital scanner and filing system, offered to let me try out their ingenious solution to my incredibly cluttered workspace. The day it arrived, we unboxed it and had it set up in about 15 minutes. It was fast and incredibly simple to get started. I sat in my office and scanned every single 2011 receipt and then started in on the recipes.

I’m now a organizational fool because The NeatDesk allows me to scan in a variety of documents and makes each of them completely searchable. So that stack of torn out magazine recipes and printed online recipes can not only be scanned in, but you’ll be able to find the recipe with ease. No more searching for hours to find that one elusive recipe I bought all the ingredients for and now can’t find. One quick search on my computer, and it’s on the screen, ready for making. And since I often take my laptop into the kitchen, there’s no need to print it either.

I have a feeling my accountant is going to love me come tax season because the NeatDesk also works with Quickbooks and Quicken. Scan in your receipts, select the appropriate categories for your purchase and that’s it!

In a matter of a few hours hours, I was able to scan all the paperwork that was continuously threatening to take over my kitchen and office. Everything is now streamlined and I can actually sit down and work without having to move piles of paperwork, receipts, and binders out of the way first. Sounds pretty fantastic, right?

The product I would use religiously is the Neat Desk Desktop Scanner and Digital Filing system. This looks amazing! Like you I have papers everywhere!! It would be spectacular to have an organized home office! As a teacher I would also use one at school for the mountains of lesson plan/activity ideas that always get lost!
