I don’t necessarily geek out for the latest gadgets – I’m kinda cheap, so it takes a lot of research and debating for me to make a big purchase. Although I’ve been drooling over a new office computer for months, I’m still rocking an uber slow and outdated Gateway – that I threaten to throw out the window at least 4 times a week. It also took me a long while to upgrade to an iPhone, and when eReaders first started hitting the scene, I was one of those to cry, “But I like turning pages!”.

Enter the NOOK Color. I have to admit, I was intrigued. Having wandered past one at a Barnes & Noble, the vivid children’s book playing out before my eyes was pretty exciting. Of course I wanted to know how it would handle cookbooks.

The answer is: phenomenally. It has perfect clarity and beautiful bright pictures on the 7-inch full color touchscreen. And it makes me feel kinda green since I’m saving trees in the process. Plus, when I travel to my Mom’s, Brian’s family, or even on vacation to a place with a kitchen, like we did this summer, I don’t have to lug along my favorite cookbooks and take up valuable real estate in the back of the Edge. They’re all right there – thousands of them available – on my NOOK Color.

I really love how instantaneous the Wi-Fi downloading is and the NOOK Color works with many local library systems. So if there’s simply one recipe I want to try out of a large cookbook, if my local library has it on lend through their e-lending system, I can just “borrow” it for two weeks instead of purchasing the whole book. There’s a lot more that you can doing using Wi-Fi. You can access the enhanced browser to surf the Web and enjoy even more video, interactive and animated content given Adobe Flash Player support.

You might ask if I miss turning pages – but the NOOK Color simulates that! The screen is absolutely beautiful, and even after hours of reading, my eyes were no more fatigued than they would be if I’d been reading a paper book for that long. Plus, because the NOOK Color is back-lit, I no longer have to keep a light on – and Brian up – so this baby was perfect during my obsession with The Hunger Games – reading in bed until 3am was completely acceptable. The NOOK Color also has games (hello, Angry Birds), apps, music, and email so you can access all of your favorite digital accessories at the touch of a button.

The NOOK Color has become a must-have for my kitchen. I really love that I can have thousands of recipes at my fingertips in a truly portable format. I can take it anywhere, but also anywhere in my kitchen. It sits easily within reach for me to cook and bake from on a shelf or the table, and even works in my favorite cookbook holder. I really kinda adore it and I’m pretty certain that you will too. The lovely people at Barnes & Noble have offered to give away a NOOK Color to one lucky MBA reader.

I love reading books on my Kindle but hate paying top dollar for them. I’ve been wanting to read Fall of Giants by Ken Follett but refuse to pay $18.99. So if I win the Nook, hopefully, Toledo Lucas County Library has this book available for download!

I want to download the book Madam Curie – this is a biography of the scientist Marie Curie written by her daughter Eve Curie. I read the translated version of it when I was a kid and it was a wonderful read. Now I want to read the original version.
