Spring has sprung – well, that is if you’re using a calendar as an indicator and not the weather. Hello, 24 degree temps, we could use a little reprieve – oh, and some sunshine would be pretty amazing too.

With the turn of the Spring season, my creative mind shifts from comforting foods, clothing and colors to all things light, airy and pastel. And of course it wouldn’t be Spring without beautifully dyed Easter eggs.

I honestly don’t remember the last time I actually dyed Easter eggs, but I have fond memories of vinegar scented, dip-dyed fingertips – who seriously uses that wonky wire thing anyway?

Picking out that cardboard box of artificial dyes, glitters, stickers and waxy crayons can be the stuff 4-year old dreams are made of. However, if you’re looking for an alternative to the boxed stuff, you’ve come to the right place.

The lovely folks at Le Creuset have created all-natural dye recipes to match some of the most popular hues from their line of stunning French ovens. Each dye recipe will help you achieve those gorgeous, brightly colored eggs without all the chemical additives. Kind of sounds like a win-win, right?

I’ve teamed up with Le Creuset to make your egg dying tradition a little more exciting. We’re giving away three Le Creuset 5 ½-quart French Ovens in your choice of Caribbean blue, Cassis purple or Soleil yellow.

To Enter

1. Take a picture of your own homemade Le Creuset Easter egg dye creations.
2. Post your picture to Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #LeCreusetEasterEggs and #bakingaddiction.
3. Entries will be gathered via the hashtags and three winners will be randomly chosen!

The contest closes on March 31st at 11:59PM EST, and winners will be chosen and contacted via comment or @reply on their photo. Be sure to upload your pictures by March 31st, and don’t forget the hashtags!

Le Creuset Cassis Eggs

Brilliant purple with the help of grape juice!

Ingredients:

12 eggs
8 cups water
1 teaspoon vinegar
2 cups grape juice

Directions:

1. Place eggs in a single layer in the bottom of the pot.
2. Add water, vinegar and grape juice. Bring to a boil and reduce heat.
3. Simmer for 15 minutes.
4. Remove eggs from pot and place in large bowl.
5. Strain liquid through a coffee strainer and pour strained liquid into bowl with eggs.
6. Cover and refrigerate overnight for deeper color. Remove from liquid and keep refrigerated.

    I absolutely could have told you what color red cabbage yields. When my minions were little, I did all homemade baby food. My middle daughter’s favorite dish was a pureed mixture of cooked red cabbage, golden delicious apple, and golden raisins. After a while, it was the only thing she wanted to eat. I thought, how bad could it be for her to have it 3 times a day if that’s what she wanted… Sparing you the gross details, she left me what you described as a lovely bold blue surprise. Needless to say, we cut back her intake of red cabbage. But it has never occurred to me to die Easter eggs with it. How clever!
