Day 4 of our Father’s Day giveaways is very near and dear to my heart. I mentioned in the Peugeot Baltaz Corkscrew giveaway that Peugeot was kind enough to also give us a pepper mill to give away in our Father’s Day celebrations.

My dad and I, we have a true and unmovable love of pepper. I’ve made no secret on MBA that I love hot food. Pepper, spice, heat – whatever you want to call it, I want my dinner to have some real KICK. And that’s a trait I got directly from dear old Dad.

The man would season chocolate cake with pepper if he could – and now that I think about it.. I’m not sure he hasn’t! An important part of imparting pepper to food is using freshly cracked pepper. If you use the stuff that’s already been ground, sure, you get a little kick (and maybe a sneeze), but to get the real bite, you have to crack the pepper as you add it to food.

That’s where a good pepper mill comes in. There are tons of pepper mills on the market, in every shape and size. But for my money, I’ve never used a pepper mill I liked more than the Peugeot Classic Paris u’select Pepper Mill in Chocolate. For one, it’s a beautiful color and made from solid Beech wood. But more importantly, this pepper mill is made by a company that’s been making pepper mills since the 1842. The grind is perfect, and easily adjustable to your size preference. Peugeot knows what it’s talking about when it comes to pepper mills.

If I were going to go out and buy my dad a pepper mill at Williams Sonoma, it would be this one.

One lucky MBA reader will receive the Peugeot Classic Paris u’select Pepper Mill in Chocolate!

My poor dad is surrounded by women (wife and 4 girls)…and to top it off, all of us women don’t eat red meat. My dad does….but never gets it. Once a year, my mom will buy him steaks for him to cook on Father’s Day. :-)

I got a chance to use a Peugeot grinder in a kitchen store before and it was amazing. Awesome giveaway!!!

My favorite Father’s Day memory is one of my only ones. My Papa(grandfather) was my mom’s step father. He and my Nana never had children of their own, but he raised her three kids(obviously including my mom) after their real dad passed away when my mom was 10 or 11. He and my Nana also ended up raising me and my three sisters with my mother, but it never really clicked in my head when I was younger that he was the only father figure I really had. Once I was out of high school, my life changed a lot. Lots of bad things happened, my Nana got cancer and ended up being stuck in our house in NJ because she got ill so quickly. He, my mom, my oldest sister, and I all took care of her until she passed away. Unfortunately it took her passing for him to really kick his care taking/nurturing into gear. He completely stepped up the the plate and took care of us in a different way then he always had. This time he talked to me about the past, my feelings, the future, how he loved me. That father’s day I bought him his standard polo shirt and made him a giant banner and card. His go to saying was, “terrific!” I can still see him in my head, leaning to the side in his chair the way he did, reading the card and looking up at me and my sister with his half smile, “this is terrific, thank you.” Short, but with so much more emotion behind his words then normal. He died less then a year after my Nana and although it was one of the hardest times for me to go through, I am still happy I got to experience what it was like to have a Father even if it was only for several months.
